Guardians of the Galaxy out today!

As my very first ever blog I thought I would try and write it about something interesting instead of bitching about the silly things people have been doing at the gym (not me, I am faultless. Always.)

So today we went to see the new Guardians of the Galaxy film. I like films and sci-fi and my beau had been waiting to see it since its production was announced 2 years ago so it seemed like a winner all round.

How much should you say in an review - I don't want to give the plot away to fans so let me start my review by setting the tone - Guardians of the Galaxy is awesome!!

I wasn't sure what to expect but had high expectations having seen a rotten tomatoes score of 91-93% but If you like sic-fi, you will like this, if you like comedy, you will like this, if you like action, you will like this. Everyone will like this. I mean everyone. The only reason you would not like this is if you are one of those old-before-your-time mumsy types that would say irritating inter-film things like 'thats so silly and unrealistic'. Well duh, if i wanted to watch reality I would just spend my day staring at the people around me. Or possibly if you are one of those artsy types who thinks its necessary to pretend to like subtitled films and can only talk about pretentious topics or the newest local dairy-free, gluten-free, sugar-free fun-free food shop. Basically you will like this film, I dare you not to.

The characters are awesomely badass (even the tiny furry creature who swears and can handle a gun like a genocidal maniac) and because of this there are some great fight scenes. Namely the girl on girl between Gamora and her sister - hard core bitches. Colourful aliens and advanced other worlds are rife. The special effects are immense - explosions, implosions, people exploding, people imploding, crashes, chases - everything you could want from an action film. There aren't actually any "intimate" scenes but enough banter to keep it interesting. World-class destructo baddies trying to destroy worlds and reluctant heroes who become family. what more could you want from a film? Seriously, what more?

But my favourite part of the film is the 8 (-28) ft tall tree who is the most expressive 'person' in the film despite only having 3 words in his vocabulary. He also happens to be a kick ass fighter (killing several baddies with one arm and then grinning at his helpfulness), can grow flowers to give to little girls and create tiny sparkly things to light the way. This character is without a doubt the best, I wonder if he wants to be my dad.

With the aim of providing a balanced view - Is there anything bad about seeing this film? Maybe because the cinema will be full of lots of 16 year old warcraft players. Possibly the fact that you will be too engrossed to eat your popcorn.

I am groot. over.
